2014 Land Rover LR4: Top 3 Off-roading Features
For 2014, Land Rover redesigned the aesthetics of the LR4 to incorporate a more flush front bumper, new grill, and updated headlights. Under the hood, Land Rover also swapped out the large, gas-guzzling V8 for a more fuel efficient 3.0-liter supercharged V6. Even with these changes, the LR4 is more capable off-road than ever, thanks to its adjustable air suspension, active off-road controls, and its optional Heavy Duty package.
Adjustable Air Suspension
Land Rover has been the industry leader for utilizing air suspension in almost all vehicles offered over the past 10 years. From various Range Rover models to the previous LR3 and now the LR4, Land Rover understands that a true off-roader needs to maximize its ground clearance at a moment’s notice. For the 2014 LR4, there are four height settings, which are easily adjustable thanks to the convenient controls located between the two front seats.
Active Off-Road Controls
All 2014 LR4s come standard with a single-speed transfer case and a 4-mode Terrain Response system. This system allows the driver to select between four different driving modes that reconfigure the engine, transmission, throttle and traction settings for the ideal driving characteristics. The four modes include tarmac, snow/ice, forest/mud, and desert/gravel.
On top of the Terrain Response system, all LR4 models also have hill descent and gradient release control. These computer-controlled systems help protect the vehicle from altering off course while off-roading.
Optional Heavy Duty Package
If you are looking for the ability to drive your LR4 anywhere without the fear of getting stuck, you need to consider the Heavy Duty package. For 2014, the Heavy Duty package includes a two-speed transfer case, 5-mode Terrain Response system, and active locking center and rear differentials. The added mode in the Terrain Response system is rock crawling, which works flawlessly with the center and rear active differentials.
The 2014 Land Rover LR4 is an incredible vehicle that has the ability to carry up to seven passengers, offers a highway fuel economy rating of almost 20 miles per gallon, and includes a vast amount of luxury, even in its entry-level trim. The LR4 is one of the strongest off-roading vehicles one can purchase today. With its adjustable air suspension, active off-road controls, and the optional Heavy Duty package, the LR4 is the only option one should consider if going off-roading is something you crave.
