2015 Land Rover LR4 vs 2015 Acura MDX
High quality, seven passenger luxury SUVs are few and far between, but two of the most popular on the market today are the 2015 Land Rover LR4 and the 2015 Acura MDX. While both offer enough seats for seven passengers and have plenty of luxury amenities, only one has a more powerful engine, better off-road capabilities, and a more functional interior space.
For 2015, Land Rover opted for a more fuel efficient drivetrain that consists of a supercharged V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power through all four wheels. The Acura MDX, on the other hand, also offers a V6 engine, but is rated at only 290-horsepower compared to the 340-horsepower found with the LR4.
Even though the engine installed in the Acura MDX is actually larger, the Land Rover LR4 cranks out more power thanks to its large supercharger. A supercharger is a belt driven mechanical device that forces more air into the engine which creates extra power.
If driving in the wilderness or the backcountry is something you either do on a normal basis or are looking to get into, both the MDX and LR4 are good choices. However, one might leave you wishing for more. The 2015 Acura MDX offers an optional SH-AWD, or Super Handling All Wheel Drive, while the 2015 Land Rover LR4 comes standard with one of the most technologically advanced four wheel drive systems on the market.
On the Acura, the SH-AWD system only has the ability to transfer power between all four wheels electronically, depending on what the vehicle thinks is best. On the other hand, the LR4, can adapt to the road based on current conditions or when you change between multiple settings and ride heights.
You can choose which setting you want depending on your specific needs thanks to the Electronic Air Suspension and the Terrain Response system. For example, with the use of the Electronic Air Suspension, the 2015 LR4 has almost 5 inches of added ground clearance, has a larger approach angle, and can forge 27.6-inches of water during those off-road adventures.
Larger Seats and Cargo Space
Even though the Acura MDX is slightly longer, by just two inches, the LR4 is actually a bit wider by around three inches. Due to its width, the LR4 does feel slightly bulkier on the road, but it offers maximum interior space. Whether it’s in the seats or in the cargo area, the LR4 is all-around more functional. With a maximum 90.3 cubic feet of interior loading space when the rear seats are folded down, the 2015 LR4 has enough room to transport almost anything!
Which SUV Comes Out on Top?
When putting the 2015 Land Rover LR4 up against the 2015 Acura MDX, there is one clear winner. With more power, better off-road capabilities, and maximum cargo space, the LR4 offers so much more than its closest competition. Throw in a larger third row seat, the optional 17-speaker 825 watt Meridian Audio system, and a tow rating that is 2,700 pounds more than the 5,000 pound maximum found with the MDX, and the fight isn’t even fair.
