2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport Tows 108-Ton Train
Land Rover vehicles are famous for their ability to traverse off-road trails and challenging terrains. But did you know Land Rover vehicles can also tow heavy loads like a luxury train? The 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport recently did just that in a demonstration of the SUV’s incredible capability.
The feat took place in Switzerland at the Museumsbahn Stein am Rhein, where the Land Rover Discovery Sport traveled along the ten kilometer stretch of tracks with three train cars weighing 108 tons in tow, traveling across the impressive 935 foot long Hemishofen bridge on the Rhine River. Its drivertrain, engine, and axles were unmodified, however, it was fitted with rail wheels by Aquarius Railroad Technologies.
“For a vehicle of this size to pull a combined weight of 108 tons demonstrates real engineering integrity,” said James Platt, Managing Director of Aquarius Railroad Technologies. “No modifications were necessary to the drivetrain whatsoever and in tests, the Discovery Sport generated more pull than our road-rail Defender, which is remarkable.”
