2016 Range Rover Celebrates Anniversary By Scaling Paper Bridge
Land Rover has built vehicles that have taken on incredible obstacles over the years. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the 2016 Range Rover which you can find in our Chicago area Range Rover inventory here at Land Rover Hinsdale. And it has seen its share of incredible obstacles. But this time it faced something especially unique — a bridge made of paper.
The city of Suzhou in China is known for its intricate, interesting bridges. It was the perfect location for Land Rover to show off the capabilities of the awesome Range Rover as it traversed the spectacular obstacle.
And what an intricate obstacle it was. The bridge’s designer, artist Steve Messam, led a team of other designers who built the bridge by layering stacks of paper one upon another. They worked to keep the paper as compact and compressed as they could, so it would remain stable and strong enough to hold up under the weight of the vehicle which checks in at around two and a half tons.
“Just made of paper with no nuts and bolts, no screws, no glue… it’s a daunting task,” Messam told reporters.
Land Rover rolled cameras on the event, from start to finish, and the capable and confident Range Rover took on the unique paper bridge, slowly but surely, with driver Chris Zhou behind the wheel. Up it rolled over the unique paper bridge, to the apex of the arch, where it stopped, for a moment. The paper bridge held firm, and the iconic SUV safely descended its paper obstacle to accolades and applause.
