Land Rover LR2 Versus Audi Q5
The car buying public may not be ready to down-size just yet. Ever-fluctuating prices at the pump have inspired car makers to produce and market vehicles with better fuel efficiency, and that includes makers of SUVs. They have certainly had to innovate in this area. Even while sports utility vehicles have come down in size over the past decade or so, the demand for mid-size models has not abated much and crossover models remain in demand.
Land Rover, like almost all other car manufacturers, has certainly recognized this and is competitive in the market, especially with the new LR2. It’s not just size and power that people want, and it’s not simply rugged durability that appeals to them. After all, how many SUV drivers actually spend their time climbing speeding through the desert anyway?
Car buyers who choose SUVs over sedans want storage space coupled with the luxury that a Land Rover LR2 has to offer and is known for. The intense weather of recent winters in the Chicagoland area has certainly made people turn toward vehicles that can grip the road in ice and snow. That’s why they turn to vehicles like the Land Rover LR2 or the Audi Q5.
The LR2 and the Audi Q5 are comparably priced, but they are not the same vehicle by any means. The LR2 was designed to compete with the mid-size and crossover models of other brands, like the Audi Q5. And yet, the LR2 offers more turbo power. Unlike the stylish Range Rover Evoque, the purpose of the LR2 is to evoke an image of sporty luxury and not just all-out style. The LR2 can handle the off-road trek when necessary, but is perfectly capable of handling your day-to-day trek as well.
The LR2 has impressive towing capabilities and plenty of space for both passengers and cargo. The back seat space is roomy and comfortable. It has great handling on and off the pavement. The controls of the cabin have been redesigned and simplified. To sum it up: It’s a crossover the public wants.
The LR2 has all the style of the Range Rover Evoque, yet is similar to the power of its larger cousin, the LR4. The LR2 is certainly at home sitting next to crossovers like the Mercedez-Benz GLK and Audi Q5. There have been several advancements made on fuel efficiency, which the public does demand. There’s a great amount of cargo space as well, more so than comparable luxury models.
As far as the LR2’s ability to get down and dirty, that’s up to the driver. Despite its classy look, it can go off-road, but make no mistake; this is more in tune with a luxury sedan than a sports utility vehicle in many respects. It’s also easy on the eyes from the inside out. The LR2, like all Land Rover vehicles, looks a little harder and a little edgier. To some folks that just means stronger and better built. On the road, despite a hard edge to its look; the Land Rover LR2 takes the edge in power, performance and luxury over the Audi Q5.
